Family Traditions Kowalski Style
Philip was thrilled to be able to show the property to his son and daughter-in-law, Eric Kowalski and Jess Tidwell and his grandson Weston on their first visit to Kowalski Mountain. More thrilling, Jess and Eric joined us during hunting season. Part of Philip’s dream is to pass on the traditions and homesteading skills to the next generation. Hunting together is one of our favorite family traditions.
With four of us hunting, safety was extremely important to communicate well our stand locations and movements. We also used our hunting app, HuntStand, to keep track of each other with the friend locator feature. We all took turns with Weston so that everyone could hunt.
Eric got a buck that week. We have a group of bucks with one straight horn and then regular antlers on the other side. He got one of these bucks. While we are not trophy hunters, herd management will include removing these bucks and try to eliminate this genetic trait from our deer.
Philip got 3 deer this week. A buck and two does. Philip and I share venison with both of our parents. Being able to share our bounty is really important to us, especially to be able to gift this to our parents.
Philip’s biggest thrill was being able to spend time hunting with Weston. It’s so specials to have time to share the activities and family traditions that we cherish with our grandchildren.
Jess and I unfortunately did not get any deer but not for lack of trying. Jess had some in her crosshairs, but when other gunshots went off, her deer was spooked. I have yet again, not even got a shot.
It was a chilly week, but hunting as a family warms the heart. Precious memories created at Kowalski Mountain.
See more of our time together on Kowalski Mountain.
