Rifle Season
While I bow hunt exclusively, Philip looks forward to opening day of rifle season. He’s an accomplished hunter using both bow and rifle, but on years where food is more plentiful and the deer less reliant on our feeders, rifle opens up greater chance of success.
Philip got a deer. He and I hauled her out of the woods together.
We process our own meat which begins in the field.
This Florida girl was pretty excited when it started to snow! Listening to it fall in the woods and blanketing the world in white is magical.
The snow began to get heavier, blanketing the ground. Danny and Joy packed up shortly after it started and headed out. It can get pretty difficult to navigate once the ground gets soft. Some of the not so magical aspects regarding snow.
We continued to hunt, making the best of rifle season. Determined to take some venison home for ourselves and our families.
Roxie enjoys the snow too, she does have a coat, which she’s not real fond of, but we do make her wear it when needed.
Some snuggle time with dad makes her day!
This particular trip there was an ice storm. A heavy blanket of ice weighted the trees down in the road. Philip and our neighbor, Robert, did some late night trimming to make the road passable.
After a week of hunting, Philip brought home two deer. We enjoyed the snow, the frost flowers and time with family.
I unfortunately ended my season not getting a deer, but I did face all of my childhood fears, scared of heights, scared of the dark, scared of what’s going to get me in the woods… I’m not gonna lie, a deer blowing sounds like a monster! Still, I enjoyed the time with my honey.
