Switchel: The Original Sport's Drink
Yield:
Nine 8 ounce servings
The original sport's drink used to quench thirst and prevent heat stroke. It's well known as Haymaker's Punch.
I got this recipe from our family cookbook, shared with me by my mother, Betty-Lou Seager.
Ingredients
- 8 cups water
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup molasses (I recommend less, add to suit your tastes)
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together in a saucepan.
- Heat gently to completely mix. (Do not boil).
- Chill before serving.
