Hey, there friend!

Philip dreamed of a place where he could build a self-sufficient life. A little piece of land where he could hunt, work the land, and build a home he could be proud of. His dream began to become reality when he purchased the first 40 acres of Kowalski Mountain in 2016.

I met Philip online in 2018. I grew up on a small, hobby farm. While I loved the outdoor lifestyle, I was stuck in my urban life, far from my roots and the lifestyle I loved.

It wasn’t long before Philip began to share his Kentucky dream and the life he planned to pursue. The decision to join his pursuit was a difficult one, as my family resides in Florida and the idea of leaving is still a heartbreaking choice.

It’s hard to deny that Philip and I were meant for each other. We make a great team! We seem to be able to accomplish more than the average couple in record time. Since our Kentucky dream is built in short workcations, our ability to get things done is a huge asset.

We’re equally stubborn and share strength and determination that failure is not an option!

Philip and I were married on a cold February day in 2021 at the hitching post right here on Kowalski Mountain.

This is about us: our journey, the victories, and the challenges. Thanks for joining us.

Sharing Knowledge with the Next Generation

Philip and I are passionate about sharing homemaking, traditional skills, and sustainable living with people of all ages! In this modern, fast paced world, traditional skills are being lost! As we share these traditional skills we work hard to provide research-based information from credible sources.
Here at Kowalski Mountain, we aspire to produce the highest quality content, created by humans, for humans. Everything you read and see here was written, photographed and videoed by Barbra-Sue and Philip.

On occasion, we accept interviews and may write for other publications as a means to expand beyond our circle of reach.

Meet Philip

Philip loves to hunt. Providing for his family is one of his greatest joys

Philip has owned and operated his own tree service company for over 20 years in central Florida. He is a retired First Sergeant from the Army Reserves. Philip loves to hunt, fish, and work with his hands. He is gifted with a technical mind and can repair almost anything he aims to. Philip is a real-life MacGyver! He is a dad of two sons and Papa to two grandsons and one granddaughter.

A “small” emergency job Philip was called in to handle.

Meet Barbra-Sue

Barbra-Sue devotes her time to education through the blog, Kowalski Mountain, and YouTube channel. She loves to cook, sew, and spoil her grandchildren. She enjoys getting dirty and the hard work required in farm life. She is the mom of three, two daughters and a son, and GiGi to three granddaughters.

Meet the Boss: Roxie

We refer to Roxie as our supervisor. She’s never far away, always watching carefully what we’re up to. She is a jealous girl… as far as she’s concerned, she’s Philip’s first love and still barks at us when she catches any displays of affection.

Always close by.

Our Valentine’s Day Wedding

Philip and I married on February 14, 2021, in an intimate ceremony behind the building site of our future home at the Hitching Post on Kowalski Mountain. An ice storm coated the wintery landscape of the homestead in a glittering coat of ice creating a sparkling backdrop.
