Family Fun: Target Practice
When we dreamed about the family camping trip, getting a chance to do a little shooting was definitely on the list of family activities. As usual we are always busy, but we still took time to spend time with the kids doing a little target practice. With his military experience, Philip has extensive training in firearms and range experience, so we are fortunate to have an expert instructor right on the homestead.
Not a Fan of Guns
I know this will be shocking, but I am not a fan of guns. I grew up around firearms, my father hunted when I was girl. I’m not against guns and I’m not even scared of guns, I am just uncomfortable handling guns. As a result, my kids have little experience with firearms, though I never forbid them to go shooting. Part of this activity was I really felt like I needed to get over this fear of guns. Watching world events unfold makes me think that a day may come that our right to do a little target practicing on our property may not always be legal or worse, the need to defend our rights and property may eventually become a reality.
Still Not a Fan of Target Practice
Now I wish I could say I was successful in my goal. As soon as Philip handed me the gun and bullets I started to cry. Faith told me later that Adrien asked what he was missing because he couldn’t figure out why I was crying. I did some shooting but I certainly don’t like it and I doubt that I will ever be comfortable with it.
Good Family Instruction
Joy and Danny are also experienced with firearms and could assisting instructing.
The family had a variety of weapons for the kids to try. We had several target areas to aim at with varying distances.
