The Last Sit
Homeward bound…. this is the view from my last sit in the stand… I finally saw a deer… a pretty doe in perfect range… quiet, dainty steps… I had two really good shooting lanes… a third possibility… I needed her to take just a couple more steps and I could take a shot… She stayed where the limbs obscured a clear shot… she looked square at me and calmly walked off… I considered taking the wild shot… but I didn’t feel I’d drop her and I don’t care to just injure her… I hoped she’d come back… but she disappeared into the trees… I might not have pulled a shot… but she taught me some lessons that I can’t learn anywhere but right there in the woods … adrenaline pumping and shaking like a leaf… I’ll see ya next year little lady…. see ya next year…
Thank you Philip… I love adventuring with you… may we have many more times for a last sit to ponder the joy of fall and hunting season.
