Spicy Mustard
Simple condiment anyone can make!
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup brown mustard seeds
- 1/4 cup yellow mustard seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 cup water
- 2 tsp salt
After Fermentation
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- sweeten to taste
Instructions
- Add mustard seeds, water, tumeric and salt in a food processor or high speed blender.
- Mix until smooth. The time will vary based on the size of your bowl and power of your machine. I blend for at least 12 minutes in a high speed blender.
- Place mustard in a mason jar, tap on counter to remove air bubbles.
- Cover with an air-tight lid and ferment at room temperature approximately 70 degrees) for at least 3 days. Fermentation time can vary based on the temperature of your home.
After Fermentation
- After fermentation, add apple cider vinegar and mix well.
- Add sweetener.
- Store in referidgerator for up to 1 year.
Notes
Yellow mustard seeds make a spicy mustard.
To make a milder mustard, use white mustard seeds.
No high-powered blender, this can be made with a mortar and pestle.Â
Fermentation: Mustard will not have a lot of fermentation activity as seen with other ferments. Fermentation time varies from 3 days to several weeks.Â
