New Tractor on the Homestead
Ohhhh what a day today was… Philip has been looking for months, trying to justify the purchase of a tractor since we are not full time on the homestead. We’d go back and forth regarding the timing of such an expensive purchase. However, the time had finally come that we had to purchase a tractor for the homestead.
Massey Ferguson Tractor on the Homestead
Philip actually found it in Kentucky close by to the homestead. A 1975 Massey Ferguson Tractor that was originally purchased on March 21,1975. The tractor has only had two owners, the gentleman who purchased it new and his son who inherited the tractor from his father. It even came with the original owner’s manual! The tractor is in amazing condition, you can see that it was well maintained.
The tractor was just a few inches too wide to fit into our trailer, so the owner was kind enough to deliver it to us.
Excitement on the Homestead
Philip was so excited to take that first trip down the driveway. The tractor will be used for a multitude of jobs on Kowalski Mountain. Bush hogging (mowing), plowing snow, disking fields for planting, even rescuing trucks stuck in the mud. The tractor is a valuable tool that transformed life on the family farm.
One of the first jobs on the list is bush hogging, since the grass gets deep in the fields. Keeping those areas mowed encourage wildlife, and help reduce tick populations on the homestead. The driveway will also get plowing. The long hill requires a lot of maintenance from washout. Building a homestead in workcations is a slow process, we’re getting there! The addition of a new tractor on the homestead is a big leap forward.
