Educational Workshops for Your Event
Philip and I are passionate about sharing homemaking, traditional skills, and sustainable living with people of all ages. We offer interactive, hands-on educational programs for adults, children, families, festivals, and community groups.
Let’s work together to create an engaging program to encourage
and support your audience!
Philip has years of experience commanding and leading groups in the military. He likes to draw the crowd in, keeping the class conversationally based, allowing participants to ask questions along the way. He’s coached children from t-ball to high school baseball, leading teams of children to victory through intensive training and mentoring.
Barbra-Sue has been teaching for over three decades! Creating educational programs for homeschool co-ops, church programs, adult studies, homestead festivals, and work-related training programs for hundreds of staff members. Whether you are looking for intimate, hands-on training programs or larger speaking events, Barbra-Sue creates engaging classes for any event.
We have a collection of classes prepared with slideshow presentations and class handouts. Philip and I would love to chat with you to create a custom workshop for your event.
We’d Love to Partner With You!
What We Teach
Using Fresh-Milled Flour
This is one of my favorite workshops! This class shares everything you need to know about getting started using fresh milled flour and why you’d want to! Covers your why, basics to get started, and making the transition from all-purpose flour to fresh-milled flour. Includes a handout for participants.
From-Scratch Kitchen Skills
This class focuses on pantry staples! Learn to make many of the condiments, seasoning blends and basic cooking staples at home rather than purchase them. While they don’t always save you $$$, knowing exactly what you’re eating brings peace of mind as you cook truly nourishing food for your family.
Beekeeping 101
Philip and I share the basics of beekeeping and what you need to know to get started. We cover basic terms, equipment and provide advice for want-to-BEE beekeepers. (pun intended)
Caste of Characters
This is an interactive class for children about the three types of bees that live in a beehive. Kids learn about the jobs bees do inside and out of the hive, acting out the roles to get a better understanding about the roles of bees in a hive.
Preserving the Harvest
Preserving the harvest is one of the biggest jobs on the homestead! Barbra-Sue preserves the harvest through pressure canning, water bath canning, dehydrating, cheesemaking and freezing. Custom classes on a variety of food preservation topics can be created especially for your event.
Soapmaking
Learn the basics of soapmaking. We cover an intro to lye safety, the raw materials that make soap and then one lucky participant helps make soap (under my very close supervision). Basic soap recipe is provided to all participants.
